He served in the United States Military during World War II.

He was 85. The cause of death was congestive heart failure, according to a spokesman for the University of Georgia. Mr. Rusk, a former president of the Rockefeller Foundation, was Secretary of State all through the Kennedy and Johnson Administrations, from 1961 to 1969.
