In the early 1900s, this Democratic Party politician served as the state of Idaho’s fifth Governor. During his two years in office, he laid the groundwork for the creation of Idaho State University.
Before taking office as Idaho’s youngest governor (a distinction he continued to hold well into the 21st Century), he worked in the mining industry and served in the Idaho State House of Representatives.
During the Spanish-American War, he fought in the Philippines with an Idaho volunteer regiment.
