Known as Ravishing Rick Rude, he was a three-time WCW International World Heavyweight Champion.
He attended Robbinsdale High School in Minnesota, where he was one of eight classmates who would become a well-known professional wrestler.
In November 1985, he won the WCWA World Heavyweight Championship, and, in September 1993, he won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

Rude was found unconscious by his wife and died on the morning of April 20, 1999, at the age of 40 when he suffered from heart failure. An autopsy report showed he died from an overdose of “mixed medications”. At the time of his death, Rude was in training for a return to the ring.
